Because it’s being said in response to a sentiment that most people on here disagree with, everyone’s just like “OHO xDD” but if you look at it just as a group of people who believe they’re having their way of life being messed with by the government, and then telling them “too bad you don’t always get everything you want”?  What the fuck?  What if this was being applied to gay marriage?  Or I dunno, any other controversial idea right now?

The trick is, the people he’s referencing aren’t being oppressed by the government- they have the freedom to practice their religion in their own lives, as do we all. The idea that one’s religion is under attack because laws are being enacted to allow things one’s religion does not approve of is ridiculous.  No one is saying one cannot practice one’s religion in one’s own life.  What they want is for the government to enact laws so that other people who are not them nor are in any way connected to them will be forced to live under their personal code.  They wish to be allowed to take their own religious principles- let’s use the ability for an employer to restrict his employee’s access to insurance as an example, but there are many examples- and have a legal backing to apply them to others. This is not okay.  The freedom to practice one’s religion does not mean the freedom to enforce it on others.  You can live your own life by the stricture of your religion and not have to have the world follow its rules- it is *your* religion, after all, and while you can certainly have an opinion on whether everyone should follow your religion, you should not (and cannot, under the First Amendment) be allowed to legally enforce its strictures on others.  Which is what he’s referencing.

So I was talking to my girlfriend about her parents, and for those of you who don’t know me personally, she’s from the Ukraine. Her parents worked in Chernobyl post melt down. When she first told me that I thought she was joking, but being the dumb American that I am, I assumed the place was abandoned and irradiated as fuck. Not the case. The plant needed constant maintenance after the fact, and apparently some of those who stayed behind to look after the plant actually called themselves Stalkers in relation to Tarkovsky’s classic film. #mynerdbonerhasneverbeensoerect

Anyway, all this talk about Chernobyl and the Western bastardization of the incident (especially with this atrocity of a movie called “The Chernobyl Diaries” coming out soon) got me thinking about how little I knew about Ukrainian weaponry. So after a little research, I found this lovely thing. It’s called a Vepr which translated means “Wild Boar”. There isn’t much to brag about, it’s a very simple rifle designed for the new century. It’s a AK-74 variant, chambered in 5.45x39mm and converted to bullpup.

With Ukraine moving towards an EU/NATO stance, this rifle may be short lived. The caliber would no longer be NATO standard, causing the Vepr to become a collector’s item in the near future. Provided anyone could get their hands on it.
